When hiring new employees, employers have a number of obligations under the Human Rights Act 1993 and the Privacy Act 1993.  The Human Rights Act sets out a number of prohibited grounds on which it is unlawful to discriminate against prospective employees.  The Privacy Act also sets out limits on how employers can collect and use personal information from prospective employees.
